Saltwater Buddah - Book review...

As promised in my previous post, I plan to read all the books we now stock in the store. After each one, I'll make sure I let you guys know what I thought and how I found it. Well as you can see from the date of the last post and the fact I'm reviewing the book already I found it hard to put down. Saltwater Buddah is the story of a journey, not just in the physical sense but equally in a deeply spiritual way. Written from the author's own experiences, dreams and Buddhist viewpoint the book tells how this journey led to the pursuit of finding Zen through Surfing. With such a spiritual angle, I'm sure the book may appeal to some more than others, but it's written in such an 'easy to read' way that I'd urge anyone to give it a go. If the Buddhist stuff isn't for you then it's worth the read for the amazing travel stories of surfing different waves in different conditions...

Watch the trailer below (now being made into a film) and note that all of the author's profits from this book are going to a very good cause!

Ideas for a rainy day...

I'm taking some time off at the moment and yesterday, I couldn't believe my luck. Warm Sun, a calm breeze and relatively clean friendly waves. When I woke up and peeled back the curtains today however, I had to wonder if I'd imagined the whole day. Greeted with grey, wet and windy weather, I felt like was in another world. I wondered what to do. I'm pretty rubbish at doing nothing and the surf today is less than inspiring, so I've opted to pick up one of the new books from the shop and dive into it this afternoon - I can't put it down - good choice! We have a whole range of new reading material from 'The surfing handbook' to the 'California Surf Project' from factual to spiritual so there's something to cater for all tastes. The book I've picked to start with (as I'm sure I'll work my way through all of them) is Jaimal Yogis' Saltwater Buddha, a surfers quest to find zen on the sea. There's a short clip below the picture in which the author explains the book...

Happy reading, ignore the bad weather, James.
