The first photo of a surfer?

This article has been posted by the Museum of British surfing on facebook. This is one of the most interesting photos of the collection showing possibly the first ever photo of a surfer...

  1. Man I'm an Oz surfer with Aboriginal background presently stuck inLondon and just wanted to comment on how that pix of the Kanaka surfer freaked me as he looks almost identical to my own dad. Thing about that is my dads tribal stories tell of being connected to the kanaka Maoli explorers who canoed from the Hawaiian Islands to New Zealand stopping on their way in the far north region of New South Wales in Australia. Mind blowing, the resemblance. Is it possible to get an enlarged copy?
