The first photo of a surfer?

This article has been posted by the Museum of British surfing on facebook. This is one of the most interesting photos of the collection showing possibly the first ever photo of a surfer...

Tash wax...

I just stumbled across this somewhere in cyber space. Unfortunately we don't make this wax anymore. We do stock Matunas organic wax though, plenty in store if you need some and it won't damage the environment when you scrape it off!

Grey Skies, Green Waves - Book review...

Another book from the Gul collection completed and another good read! All in all, this book couldn't be more different to the last one I reviewed but it's as hard to put down and just appeals in a different way. Grey skies, Green Waves follows the Author's journey around the British Isles over the space of one year. His quest is to search out not only some of the world class surf that Britain has to offer but also his own hidden passion for the UK and it's cold, challenging waves.

This makes the book very easy to relate to and whether you live in Thurso or Newquay, some parts are bound to feel very close to home.
Grey Skies, Green Waves is avaliable in store now for £8.99

Triumphant Gul...

Saturday saw the deciding event of the British Longboard Championships being held at Gwithian Beach, Cornwall in far from ideal 1 to 2 foot slop. Despite the challenging conditions there was some spectacular surfing on show!

The Gul Team Riders dominated the rankings with James Parry showing his world class skills in the weak swell still managing to pull off critical hang tens and powerful turns, winning the championships taking the men's British title!

Ben Haworth took 3rd overall in the championships. Our newest longboard edition to the team Matt Travis took 4th place in the Open final. In the Ladies division Becky Stanhope took 3rd on the day completing the year as 3rd overall. The evening was topped off at the Sunset Surf Cafe with Minnow’s prize giving and some slurry crooning into the karaoke mic, awesome!

Well done guys!!!

Now, it goes without saying that all this success would not be possible if these guys weren't using the best kit on the market. All of our Wetsuits have been tested and put through their paces by our riders to enable us to bring you, the customer, the wetsuits you'd expect from the original Cornish Surf Co.

September...

Always a strange 'in between' month, the way you feel about September is largely due to your age...To state the obvious, all of you under the age of 16 have seen the summer disappear to become the start of a new year of School, literally over night. For the rest of us, September feels like the last chance to fire up the Barbie or make the most of the slightly longer evenings as they rapidly disappear (by 3mins a day I've heard!) For us residents of Cornwall and Devon, we get our own mini-Summer with uncrowded beaches, roads and Waves and to quote my Dad "It's always a lovely month - September"
For those lucky few still around, we still have our £££s off deals on brand new Autumn Winter lines, so come into your local Gul store and take a look...

It's Falmouth Week...

Today is the official start of Falmouth Week 2010. Falmouth week is fast becoming a 'must attend' event of every Summer. Not only for Sailing enthusiasts, the week is packed full of events and shows. If you're not here already try and make a special trip to Falmouth this week and soak up some of the action. A personal favourite of mine is the Red Arrows which are due to fly on Wednesday night! To make things even better we're in sale throughout the whole event and probably beyond.
